Asp
The city of Asp was an enormous city situated in the heart of The Northern Highlands. It was founded shortly after The Godswar, and fell after a slow decline following the downfall of The Sapphires.
History
In Asp's infancy, it was ruled by a local lord, patriarch of the family that had initially settled there. As it grew into the imposing city it would become, the lord and his family became a king and his royalty.
Monarchy over Asp would pass hands more than once throughout its history, before finally landing on a half-elven family; The Admenors. After a few generations, Queen Talara Admenor would take the throne, determined to do right by the people of Asp and live up to the legacy of her beloved father. Ultimately, Talara would form a bond with the Archdragon Felistia and achieve immortality as a powerful Archfey.
After The Attack of the Kiros left Queen Talara in a weakened state, The Rakos seized control, banishing the Queen to the Fey Realm and taking control of the city as the powerful noble family, The Sapphires.
Eventually, a humanitarian guild named Vers Raviwric would rise up out of Asp's slums, and take down The Sapphires, freeing the Queen from her prison and returning her rule to the city.
The Queen would establish a council of elected and trusted representatives to rule the city on behalf of the people, and retired to the Fey Realm, however recent events had soured the city for many, and the outside world seemed bright and fresh to explore, so the city's population dwindled, before finally the few families that remained gathered to reluctantly admit that hope was lost for Asp, and the city's last residents would move on to new places, leaving the city dilapidated and abandoned.
Surrounding Towns
Many small towns and villages surrounded Asp in the highlands and operated under the rule of the city.
Runswicke
Though it would later become the capitol of the province of Vandia, Runswicke began as a work-town for Aspite farmers working fields to bring in food to the city from as far north as the Vandian Basin.
Westport
While it would long outlive its master city, Westport began as Asp's first ocean port, though it garnered little development as the The Shattered Sea proved treacherous.
Willowdale
While not technically under the formal rule of Asp, the small forest community of Willowdale depended on the city's prosperous market in hard times.
